Interior lighting and proper lighting
Lighting is a very important aspect of any interior. Sometimes it´s difficult to achieve its proper use and location. Insufficient lighting complements may cause that your efforts for the perfect interior will be worthless.
There are three types of interior lighting:
Some rooms require the use of all three types of lighting, while others require only one or two. Before you start shopping, try to get acquainted with the tasks that artificial lighting should perform. The function of the light source can be affected by the colors of the walls or furniture. Bright and shiny areas may caused light scattering, and dark, matter materials its absorption.
Ambient lighting, or as it is commonly called, general lighting, serves as the primary light source. Its task is to replace natural light and dominate space. It is a basic pillar of room lighting. In addition to its basic function, ambient lighting enhances the feeling of warmth and depth of space. The level of general lighting will determine whether the room will be light, cozy, dark or more relaxed.
This type of lighting works on the principle of ensuring a pleasant level of lighting without excessive glare. When choosing it, it is necessary to think about the types of resources to use and also where to place it. Balanced ambient lighting can be achieved by using basic luminaires, such as pendant or track luminaires, LED panels, recessed and surface-mounted luminaires on the wall or ceiling.
As the name suggests, this type of lighting serves a specific purpose – whether it’s reading books, working on a computer, cooking, or applying makeup. The main purpose of task lighting is to reduce eye strain. For this reason, the lighting should be relatively bright, but not too intense – you need to find a balance. Your age and vision quality are also factors that directly affect the level of task lighting. An older person requires a better and more focused light to read than a younger person with better eyesight. Luminaires tend to use halogen or LED bulbs for this purpose. In this case, LED bulbs are an excellent choice because they produce bright and focused light. Today, most people use LED bulbs because they produce more lumens with less power, which means they are more energy efficient than halogen.
This type of lighting adds drama and style to the room. It takes care of all potential shadows and illuminates areas such as shelf tops or dark corners that are not fully lit by the room’s ambient lighting. You can use it to draw attention to various architectural design solutions or rare paintings. The most common forms of accent lighting are LED strips and rail and spot lights. Rail lights often resemble spotlights in their expression. The main difference is that they can move along the rail and always focus on another place.
Accent lights usually use LED bulbs. One of the reasons is that the LED source emits very little UV rays and heat. For example, using a hot light bulb near a work of art can be dangerous – LEDs eliminate this threat.
AT THE END
When designing lighting, first determine the goals you would like to achieve. Develop a schematic lighting plan in which you record the position of the windows, the orientation of the rooms and the layout of the furniture. Choose lighting that combines functionality and aesthetics.
